Pre-rehoming Education
Surrendering a pet is rarely easy. Research shows nearly every owner describes the decision as agonizing, and many who've returned a pet say they wouldn't do it again.
Life changes (a move, a new baby, a job loss, etc.) and sometimes it starts to feel like giving up a pet is the only option. We want to reach you before it gets to that point.
Rimpianto works with pet owners navigating crises, or simply those who made decisions to own a pet without the proper education in advance. We offer real alternatives, responsible options, and resources so a temporary hardship or making up for past decisions doesn't have to mean a permanent goodbyes or a more regretful decisions.
HOW WE DO THIS
Step 1: A pet owner considering surrendering or rehoming their pet submits an interest form and requests a free pre-rehoming consultation.
Step 2: A Rimpianto team member reaches out to confirm eligibility. If approved, the pet owner completes a full intake form and books a virtual 1-hour consultation.
Step 3: During the consultation, Rimpianto staff and the pet owner discuss the situation, explore options, and identify potential solutions.
Step 4: Rimpianto staff follows up with a draft pet safety plan, built from the information shared during the consultation.
Step 5: The pet owner reviews and signs the safety plan, authorizing Rimpianto to provide further support and education as outlined in the plan.
Step 6: Final cost of education and support varies depending on the situation. We work to fit the pet owner's budget as much as possible, offering realistic, affordable options that help keep the pet in a safe situation.
Your first pre-rehoming consultation is free. Submit your interest here to be considered for a virtual call (up to an hour), where we'll learn about your situation, walk through your options, and start building a pet safety plan so your decision comes from support, not survival mode.
The first consultation is free/sliding-scale. Additional consultations requested by the pet owner (rarely needed, since all pets and options are meant to be covered in the first session) may cost up to $40, determined at our discretion, and must be paid via invoice before scheduling.
